Mandatory Health Requirements for Traveling to Costa Rica with Pets

To enter Costa Rica with your pet, the following requirements must be met:

International Health Certificate:
This must be issued by a licensed veterinarian in your country of origin and endorsed by the corresponding official authority (for example, USDA-APHIS in the United States or SAG in Chile). This certificate is generally valid for 14 days prior to the travel date.

Rabies Vaccination:
Your pet must have a valid rabies vaccination. The vaccination certificate must be included with the travel documentation.

Deworming Treatment:
Pets are required to receive treatment for internal and external parasites (including ticks and tapeworms) shortly before travel, typically within 15 days prior to departure.

Screwworm Certificate:
Due to recent regional outbreaks, a certificate confirming that the animal is free of screwworm is required.

Important:
Regulations may change without prior notice. We strongly recommend verifying current requirements with the official sanitary authority in your country and with Costa Rica’s animal health authority before traveling.
